!The last weekend in May, the Hopkins family went to St. Paul's Woods in Morton Grove for an annual Memorial Day picnic that the family has held with their friends for the past thirty (plus!) years. It's amazing that this tradition has held for over three decades. Over the years, Brian's parents and their friends have watched their own children grow, start families of their own, and now the grandchildren are starting to attend. Three generations strong and growing!
We were lucky to have Uncle Mark and Aunt Anne in town with their two kids Rohan and Fynn, and Delaney got to play with her cousins as well as other grandkids who attended the picnic. Unlike last year, we didn't get any rain and it was a sunny and pleasant day. Delaney walked around and socialized with everyone, hung out with her cousins playing with the water pump, mini lawn chairs, and toy dump trucks. The highlight of the day was looking at the 17-year cicadas, which were soon to come out in droves all over the Chicagoland area for the next month and cause ear-deafening noise with their mating calls, but never quite made it to our hometown of Aurora.
All the kids were exhausted by the end of the day, and we hope to continue to make it to the picnic over the years as our families grow and a new generation continues.
