Jarvis Beach in Rogers Park, Chicago. This will always be a very special place for me. The Hopkins grew up a few blocks from this beach from the early 1970's to when the kids moved out many years later. Bob and Lorene were in that house until 2014. Mommy also lived in an apartment on this lake the Summer of 2001. These photos were taken on a sunny but cold day in early 2012. Topher was 2, Lila was 4, and Delaney was soon to be 6. Uncle John was with us on the outing also. We ran around to stay warm, sat on the big rocks and enjoyed the sun.
As I'm writing this in 2024, we haven't been back to this beach together in probably 7 or 8 years. Life got busy and the beach is now covered mostly in lakeshore tides and shallow water due to changing shorelines. The beach hardly exists in that spot these days. But those times I spent with the kids on the shore, and those few years even before they were born, have become some of the happiest memories of all time. It will always be my favorite beach.
