delaney's first birthday party feb 07

Grandpa's little girl!

This stuff is pretty good!

I think I'm done now Mom.

Delaney had her first birthday party on February 24th! It's amazing that she is already turning one, the first year flew by and she is getting to be such a big girl! I guess the old adage is true....time flies when you're having fun! And we are really having fun with Delaney. We decided to have the party a week early since we were planning on being in Mexico the following weekend. I had the best time planning the party, which I had pretty much finished by January! Choosing the theme (Winnie the Pooh), buying the decorations, making the invitations, and picking out her birthday present were all exciting events for me! Delaney got lots of lovely and colorful gifts, and from Mommy and Daddy she got a wooden farm puzzle and a big red wagon, which has little straps and seat backs to keep Delaney (and a wagon mate) secure inside! The best feature is probably the cup holders :O) I always wanted a little red wagon, and am happy to be living out my childhood dream by taking little Laney out on wagon rides.

The party was lots of fun! Delaney had a long nap just beforehand so she was well-rested and a gracious hostess to everyone. Her cousin Brittney suprised us and got Delaney dressed and ready just as the first guests arrived. There was a wonderful turnout of friends and family, and the guest list included: Grandma and Grandpa Hopkins, Aunt Jen and cousins Kyle and Brittney, Mommy and Daddy, Uncle John, Aunt Karen and Steve, Alex Adcock and her son Daniel, Matt and Blanca and their daughter, Danele and Chris Rhoads and their kids Grace and Lucas, Sandra Maysonet and her daughter Rosie, Maritza and Alan Clever and their son Nicholas, and Steve and Sabine Colson and their son Cyrus. We ordered pizza from a place called Ach-N-Lou's, THE place for pizza in Aurora!

We got a shot of all the babies on the couch mugging for the camera, and they continued to stay well behaved and calm for the rest of the party! There were no meltdowns, no tears, and everyone held up well, considering half the guests were under the age of three! It was fun watching Delaney blow out her candles on the big old frosting covered cake, and because we know she is a ham, she LOVED being the center of attention. She did get her own piece of cake, and we patiently waited for her to smash it all over face. Well....it didn't exactly happen that way but she did make quite a mess with her little fingers all over the highchair tray. After about fifteen minutes, she realized that what was on her fingers was edible and put a little bit of the frosty concoction in her mouth, but didn't make as big of a mess as expected. She definitely seemed to enjoy it, though!

All in all, it was a memorable and fun day and I was thrilled that we had such a good turnout for Delaney's special day. I wonder what exciting events that Delaney's second year has in store for us.........
