Mommy had two weeks off for Christmas vacation, and we got together with several friends. Just after New Year's, we went downtown on the Metra train (Delaney's third trip on the Metra)! She got her own seat and entertained herself with books. Getting off the train, a fellow passenger commented to me how she was impressed with Delaney's sense of balance. It was pretty funny seeing this little girl all propped up in an adult-size seat! Of course, Mommy stayed nearby just in case the ride got a little too jiggly :O)
Our first visit was meeting up with Janet Sawyer, a friend from my DePaul days. Janet is starting her student teaching in a middle school science classroom this semester, and hopes to be finishing up this summer. She met us in downtown Chicago for lunch and a walk to the Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's) Christmas window displays. We didn't get to downtown to see them this year until January 3rd, but fortunately the displays were still up. The theme this year was Mary Poppins, which was fun. We hope to make this a Christmas tradition in years to come.
On the same day that we went downtown for a visit with Janet, we stopped by the former office where I worked for AEON, and visited with Rob Petty. Rob is now the general manager and AEON recruiter for the Chicago branch. Rob and I first started working together in October 96 at the Chikusa branch in Nagoya WAY back in the day! We still marvel how quickly 10 years have passed. He and his wife Yukari (a former student of mine in Chikusa) live in Arlington Heights and keep very busy at their jobs, while travelling the world in between.
Our friend Natalia Fuentes was visiting from Spain, and a few hours before she departed for her voyage back to Europe, Delaney and I stopped by her former host family's house for a chat over bagels. I hadn't seen Natalia since our wedding, so it was nice to catch up and introduce her to Delaney. She is finishing law school back in Spain, and should be a full-fledged attorney by the end of this year.
